How to Convince Your Boss to Use Event Technology

Maybe your boss comes from a different generation. There's nothing wrong with that, he or she just has certain ideas about how things are done based on what has been working for years. But life (and event planning) is different today than it was 10 or 20 years ago. It's different than it was one year ago...

Nielsen reported last year that 98 percent of people age 18-24 have a smartphone, while 97 percent of people age 25-34 have one. And it doesn't exactly drop off at that point: 96 percent of those age 35-44 are smartphone users, too.

Whether your boss realizes it or not, he or she needs to use event planning technology not only to create the kind of event that appeals to today's smartphone-loving folks, but also to appeal to the very people who are helping to plan the event (i.e. event workforce management). In case you need a little help convincing your boss, here's what to say:

It'll save you time!

Pens, paper, and phone calls take too much time (and people have been losing important papers since kindergarten). An event staff management platform keeps all the information in one place, allowing you to easily see if you have gaps in the staffing schedule, contact the people you need to contact, and share necessary documents and instructions. Your data is stored on the cloud, so you can access it anywhere, at any time, from any device.

With event technology, the organizational system is already in place. You don't have to take the time to invent your own (which may end up with some gaps because, let's face it, it's hard to think of everything): simply plug your event information into the system and get to work. With each passing week, event technology offers more and more functionality to make it easier than ever to organize an outstanding event.

It'll save you money!

Maybe lead with this one. Time is money, first of all, but so is printing. Why print instructions for your staff and volunteers when you can send virtual documents to all of them with one click?

More than that - an event staff management platform allows you to work smarter, not harder - increase scheduling and recruitment efficiency, reduce administration hours, and start tracking data that will help you + your boss make important business decisions.

It'll engage those millennials!

Since almost all of them are on their smartphones all the time anyway, event technology is an easy way to reach them and keep them engaged. It will not only be easy for them to pick up, it'll appeal to them since tech solutions are what they've come to expect.

It creates connections.

Isn't this what events are all about? Event staff technology allows you to create a community among your staff and volunteers. Even if they work different shifts and rarely see each other in real life, they still feel like they're part of the team, and they get to know one another virtually. Event tools are interactive and fun for the users.

You already see the value in event technology for your staff, so you'll have no trouble convincing your boss to see it, too.
